Let's
begin this by saying that life should hold no mandate to have children.
Now that's out of the way, let's add the 'but.' I wrote previously how
the progressive agenda is being driven by the environmentalists and the
population control crowd. I see no problem in having no children, since
that was my choice in life. I didn't do it because of some environmental
concern, or for career paths, it was just a personal decision.
We,
at times, see the choice of having no children glorified. As someone
who made that choice, there are times of regret at having made that
decision. If I could turn back time, that might be one of the many
different choices in my life.
My
point is that we must make these decisions based on what we feel is
best for ourselves at the time. From some one who made the no children
decision, I warn you to not listen to the progressive and
environmentalist voices. One can propose many logical reasons to have or
not have children.
Imagine
you are staring in the mirror at your gray hair and having regrets
about your no child decision. You now know that you could have had a
successful career and children—you realize the catastrophe of climate
change never happened and never would have happened no matter your
decision.
From 2007 to 2011, the most recent year for which there is data, the fertility rate declined 9%. A
2010 Pew Research report showed that childlessness had risen across all
racial and ethnic groups, adding up to about 1 in 5 American women who
had passed their childbearing years. This trend doesn't seem to be
changing. We can attribute some of this to lifestyle changes. We have so
many distractions sometimes it can be hard to find time for the
activities that lead to having children. Some of this can be due to
better pregnancy prevention.
No
one can predict the future and say that having fewer children will be
beneficial or harmful. Some even look at the statistics with a
xenophobic view. Whatever the reason for not having children, or just
having one, it must be your decision.
Every
day we are bombarded with information and opinions that run the board.
One thing is sure, humans will procreate. Because of World War II there
was a baby boom as soldiers returned home. The great depression had
ended and people could afford to have children. Socioeconomic conditions
have always had an effect on the rate of childbirths.
Because
of the high rate of divorces and the large number of single mothers we
know that in the end childbirth must be the woman's decision. Make it
for your own reasons and block out political influences.
